Below are several projects I have worked on that are related to illustrative ability and the grunge textural aesthetic. Each piece is related to themes dark fantasy and dark realism. Projects range from packaging, album cover work and a card deck design.
Atlas Stone "Doomscrying" Album Cover
The cover art for 'Doomscrying,' the latest album by Cincinnati-based progressive rock band, Atlas Stone, explores the unsettling convergence of humanity, technology and the occult. This captivating album delves into the unsettling convergence of humanity, technology, and the occult, exploring the profound and unsettling implications of artificial intelligence and its potential to blur the lines between the natural and the supernatural. "Doomscrying" serves as a powerful and unsettling commentary on the evolving relationship between man, machine, and the unseen forces that may be intertwined with their rapid advancement.
WW1 Newspaper Archive Collage Album Cover
The tragedy of war, the loss it has caused, and the fog it puts over the minds of men. This album cover artwork exemplifies the horror that both sides experienced during the first world war and the greed of the leadership that took place during those dark times, in this newspaper collage style piece.
For my imagery, I utilized archived images and newspaper articles which I collaged and juxtaposed, while also incorporating texture and displacement maps for my textures. My goal was that this work looks aged - like a vintage, high contrast screen print. I think that this piece accomplishes that to an exceptional level.
House of Cards, House of Horror Card Set
The card design project delves into dark fantasy abstract artwork, crafting portals to eerie realms where shadows intertwine with light and dreams blend with nightmares. Through crude pencil marks and vivid colors, fantastical creatures and arcane landscapes come to life, inviting viewers to explore the depths of their imagination and embrace the unsettling beauty of the unknown. All illustrations in this piece were done by me via digital illustration with Photoshop, Illustration and scanned in artwork.
Biblical Leviathan Abstraction Poster & Album Cover
Inspired by the work of Gustave Doré, this abstract piece is my own recreation of the famous etching Gustave did of Leviathan from the Old Testament. By using abstract color such as the extremely vibrant red and blue and inventive patterns to distort and modernize his legendary style, I hoped to evoke a modern feeling reminiscent of the timeless masterpiece.
For me, this was also a study in photoshop techniques. I utilized an etching pattern and multi-layering of patterns and color as well as posterization, texture mixing, pencil illustration and displacement map along with several other methods while creating this piece.
