The objective of this project was to create a visually captivating music video that not only showcases the music but also embodies the distinct aesthetic and artistic vision of a specific musician. Our goal was to seamlessly integrate the musician's sound and visual style into the video, ensuring that every frame reflects their unique identity and creative essence. Through careful planning and collaboration, we aimed to produce a music video that resonates deeply with the artist's audience, enhancing their connection to the music and providing an immersive visual experience.
For as long as I can remember, I have had a passion for music so I decided to make a lyrical music video for one of my favorite musicians, King Krule. I wanted to convey the blue and melancholy nature of his music through visuals and texture.
King Krule is a British musician that has an extremely wide variety of genres he has experimented in. He has songs that explore punk, post-punk, jazz, ballads and even 60's rock. This song in particular really encapsulates the blue nature in his music. It's a ballad from his song "Czech One." It is an extremely moody song, so be warned.
Software Used: TouchDesigner, After Effects, Cathodemer, Visions of Chaos & Cinema 4D
My Process
For this Project, I wanted to make a more gloomy music video for the king of gloom, King Krule. I would say this project was more experimental and a way of getting my foot into the door with motion design. I wanted this project to be soothing, melancholy and darker experience for my viewers, similar to King Krule's music.
I utilized a lot of TouchDesigner amd for this project, which is a program that is used for new media installation artwork, but has its capabilities in motion design most definitely. It is an exceptional program for creating video textures and shapes. I also used other programs like Cathodemer for the CRT background textures and distortion I am using, and Visions of Chaos for a few textures and artificial intelligence motion art as well. All of this was put together into a final project file in After Effects and exported.
Below is my storyboard I designed this video from. It shows the basic premise of what I was thinking at the beginning of this project.
